    I’m co-starring in a short film for St. Louis’s 48 hour film festival, it premieres September 1

    A behind the scenes photo I snapped early on during the day.

    This past weekend, I starred in another short film for the 48 film festival in St. Louis. For those who may not know, the 48 hour film festivals involve blindly picking a genre(s) as well as having to include several other prompt items. Your small production team then has 48 hours to script, shoot, edit, and submit a short film with all of that included. It’s a challenging way to make a movie, but it’s fun.

    I’ve appeared in a handful of 48 hour short films in the past 10+ years. Last year, the production company I appeared with was Say Whaaat Productions. It was their debut to the world as they were just forming, and we had to make a musical and climate film. We made a musical comedy climate film that scored four nominations including best film.

    This year we got handed a drama/vacation or holiday genre. We filmed last Saturday and submitted our short for competition on Sunday.

    The film premieres September 1 during a 7pm showing with other short films. If you’re in St. Louis or nearby, feel free to score some tickets and come check out our film titled Pick the Bear.

    I don’t want to get much into the plot or anything, since the film hasn’t premiered yet, and I don’t want to spoil anything. But after the premiere, I’ll write a bit about it and the experience more.

    Upcoming author reading of queer YA horror story

    This September I’ll be going back to my old hometown, Rolla, Missouri, where I grew up in the 90s, to read from my queer YA sci-fi horror comedy short story “Blood Frequency” and doing a Q&A. My story takes place in that town during the 90s. And the event is hosted by the local LGBTQ+ group.

    It’s sort of surreal to think about it. But a lot of good work has been done these past few years in my old hometown to be more inclusive and kind. Doing something like this there in the 90s would have been unheard of.

    In preparation for this event, I’ve created an Events page on the website with details and a link to the Facebook Event. In the future, I’ll be posting all events I do to that page.
